Kane County property owners should be receiving their 2007 property tax bills shortly after May 1st. according to John A. Cunningham, Kane County Clerk. Cunningham said, “The bills payable this year for 2007, can be paid in two installments-June 2 and September 2 to the Kane County Collector”.

He said new rates on the bills reflect taxes levied by each taxing districts for operating funds as well as their bond and interest payments. “Rate increases can be caused by inflation, new growth in the taxing district or voter approved referenda,” he said. “Officials at the local taxing districts should be able to answer taxpayer’s questions about changes in their rates,” Cunningham said.

Additional information on tax rates is available on the County Clerk’s website at or you can contact the Kane County Clerk’s Tax Extension Department at 630-232-5964 for more information.

“If you do not receive a tax bill shortly after May 10, contact the Kane County Treasurer at 630-232-3565, Extension 0,” he said.

(Springfield, IL -- September 17, 2007) The Illinois Association of County Clerks and Recorders (IACCR) unveiled their revised property tax manual at their annual fall meeting during a full day of Tax Extension training. The manual hadn’t been revised since 1998 and IACCR made the decision to revise at this time due to PTELL (Property Tax Extension Limitation Law) reform last year.

The Tax Manual Committee chairman, Mark Von Nida, Madison County Clerk recruited County Clerks, as well as County Tax Extenders to serve on the committee. Representatives from the Illinois Department of Revenue and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity also served on the Committee. Kane County’s Tax Extender, Susan Ericson served on the committee and was a part of the instructional team at the annual meeting.

The majority of changes in the manual are related to PTELL. Ballot wording for referenda propositions has changed dramatically. Impact to homeowners is now required to be printed on the ballot for each proposition and year.

Information on obtaining a copy of the manual, call Susan Ericson at 630/232-5965.

Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham is urging prospective applicants to apply now for a passport.

"Fall is traditionally a slow time for passport applications." states Cunningham. "Since the air phase of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative came into effect in January, the State Department has added hundreds of additional employees to handle the record-breaking requests for passports, creating a turn-around time of approximately four and six weeks for routine service, and three weeks for expedited service."

All persons traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean region are now required to present a valid passport to enter or re-enter the United States. For U.S. Armed Forces on active duty, traveling on official orders, no passport is required.

For the latest information on obtaining a U.S. passport, please contact the Kane County Clerk’s Vital Records office at 719 S. Batavia Ave., Building B in Geneva (630-232-5950), visit the County Clerk’s website at or check passport information on
